The Death Of Death — A LifeWords Devotion

Thinking about dying is not at all popular. And yet dying is the one thing none of us can avoid. We may avoid car accidents or divorce, bankruptcy or homelessness. But we can’t avoid death and its accompanying sense of loss.

Things like wars or pandemics or famines do not increase death: they merely hasten it. Those who don’t die through such causes will die of something. This might not seem like cheery news, and we ought not to become preoccupied with it. But ignoring it won’t make the truth go away.

Thankfully, while death is a reality, so too is the possibility of resurrection. Jesus tells his followers that though they may physically die, they can come alive again in a new way through giving their lives to Jesus. Reason being that since Jesus died and rose again, those connected to him by faith will do the same thing.

Jesus’ resurrection spells the death of death for those who trust in who he is and what he has done. Death is no longer fatal. Our own dying brings an end to one chapter of our life story. It is not the end of the story itself.
