Good morning. Here to invest a few minutes into your life, your spiritual life, as we start this day by going to God’s Word, spending some time with God.
You need to learn when you have your daily time in the Bible, not to just read the Bible, not to just look for principles of life that are true, even though the Bible is packed with them. But to look for God’s voice in your heart speaking to you through His Words in the Bible.
That’s what God wants to do.
In one place, the apostle Paul describes the Bible as the sword of the Spirit – Which is the Word of God. And that sword, the word of God, is taken up by the Holy Spirit in your life, and He brings God’s message to your heart. Are you listening to God today as you start your day?
We’re looking today at Psalm 127.
And this psalm was written by Solomon. And he says:
Unless the Lord builds the house, they labour in vain who build it.

Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain.
It is vain for you to rise up early, to retire late, to eat the bread of painful labours.
For he gives to his beloved even in his sleep. Behold, children are a gift of the Lord. The fruit of the womb is a reward like arrows in the hand of a warrior. So are the children of one’s youth.
How blessed is the man whose quiver is full of them. They shall not be ashamed when they speak with their enemies in the gate.
One of the greatest principles in the Bible given to us in that first verse – Unless the Lord builds the house. They labour in vain who build it. Unless the Lord guards the city, the watchman keeps awake in vain, and he goes on to say it’s vain to rise up early. It’s vain to go to bed late. It’s vain to eat the bread of painful labour. He goes on and on.
All these things are vain unless God is the one who is accomplishing the things that need to be accomplished in your life. The most important things of life aren’t just eating and drinking and surviving, making it to the next day. Those aren’t the things that make life significant. Life isn’t meant to be just existence. Life is meant to be directed and empowered by God.
And your life, your personal life today, can be built by God. God can be the one accomplishing the important things in your life today as you speak with people today.
As you earn your living, as you make decisions today. In everything that you do, God can be involved in your life today. As you depend on Him.
Why don’t you take some time right now and turn to God in your heart and say, O Lord, I don’t want to live today in my own strength, in my own power. I want to walk today by your power. I want you to be leading me and guiding me. I want you to be involved in my conversations with other people. I am available to you today. Not just for my own comfort but for what you want to do in my life and through me in the lives of others.
