As we read God’s Word together, would you just stop for a moment and pray to God and say, Lord, would you speak to me? Speak to me in your Word today.
We come today to Psalm 121. Which says:
I will lift up my eyes to the mountains. From whence shall come my help. My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.
He will not allow your foot to slip. He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, he who keeps Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
The Lord is your keeper.
The Lord is your shade on your right hand. The sun will not smite you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will protect you from all evil. He will keep your soul.
The Lord will guard your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forever.

I will lift up my eyes to the mountains.
Do you ever sometimes get out in nature? It’s such a healthy thing to do.
And just look around, take stock of it. Remember who made it. You know, when I get to a truly magnificent place in nature, my heart just automatically wells up with praise to God for what He has made.
And the psalmist did that too. I lift up my eyes to the mountains, and I remember who made them.
And I ask, where does my help come from, and the answer is so obvious.
My help comes from the Lord who made heaven and earth.
So often being out in nature reminds you – God is here. He’s real. The world has been made by God, and it’s full of beauty and awesomeness and power, and that just reminds us that there’s one place we should turn to when we need help, and that is to God.
He will not allow your foot to slip. He who keeps you will not slumber. He will neither slumber nor sleep. God doesn’t lose track of you. He doesn’t forget about you. He doesn’t want your feet to slip as long as you trust him and turn to him. He will keep your foot from slipping.
Are you facing a situation that is so stressful you don’t know if you can handle it?
God will keep your foot from slipping. If you don’t push Him away and say, How could you let this come into my life? But rather if you turn to Him and say, Lord, walk with me through this. I want to honour you as I face these deep waters. He will not allow your foot to slip.
He’s your keeper. He’s your shade on your right hand. The sun will not smite you by day, nor the moon by night. He’ll protect you from all evil and will keep your soul. Doesn’t mean you’ll never get sick or hurt in any way, but in your inner life, your soul, you’ll be healthy.
Only God can do that for you. He’ll guard your going out and your coming in from this time forth and forever.
As you go into this day, why don’t you turn to God right now and ask Him to walk with you through this day to guard your inner life so that no matter what happens in this day – you are ready for it because of your relationship with God.
