Good morning. And as we start this day, let’s start it together in the Word of God, having some time with God together.
We’re looking at Psalm 119 this week, and today we get to verse 57. It says:
The Lord is my portion.
In other words, he is what I need in life.
The Lord is my portion. I have promised to keep your words. I entreated your favour, God, with all my heart. Be gracious to me according to your word.
That is just like your word tells me you are. Be that way to me.
I considered my ways and turned my feet to your testimonies.

That is, I decided to begin living my life God’s way.
I hastened and did not delay to keep your commandments.
Do you know what God wants you to do in your life right now? Have you been resisting it? Have you been putting off dealing with it?
Well now is the time. Now is the time to say to God, OK, Lord, I know what you want. I’m not going to delay. I am going to hasten to keep your commandments.
Goes on:
The cords of the wicked have encircled me, but I have not forgotten your law. At midnight I shall rise to give thanks to you because of your righteous ordinances.
Do you ever wake up at night, have a hard time sleeping? Do you know you can turn that time, which is very frustrating to you – into a real blessing to you.
Get up and give thanks to God. Start thinking about what God is doing in your life and what you can thank Him for. Open your Bible, have a little prayer time.
Usually, that will so put you at peace that you’ll be able to go back to sleep as well.
He goes on to say:
I am a companion of all those who fear you and of those who keep your precepts. The earth is full of your loving kindness, O Lord. Teach me your statutes.
I love that verse. I am a companion of all those who fear you.
Do you know that in your own personal spiritual life, in your own walk with God, there are few things more important than sharing your relationship with God, with the other Christians that you know, with other people who love God.
Getting together with them, talking about what God is teaching you in His Word, studying the Bible together, praying together.
In my own life, I don’t know of anything that is more encouraging to me spiritually than that factor in my life. I have a group of guys that I meet with regularly and we pray together. Also, my wife and I meet with another couple, and we have great Bible studies together and praying for one another, sharing about each other’s lives.
If you are not in a small group of some kind that meets together regularly – around the word of God – I encourage you to start it. Just find somebody and say: Hey, let’s start getting together on Tuesday nights, and we’ll go to the Christian bookstore and we’ll find a Bible study to start, and we’ll start it, or we’ll just pick a book of the Bible and we’ll read a chapter out loud together and then talk about it, pray about it. You can’t imagine what that will do for your spiritual life.
I am a companion of all those who fear God and of those who keep His precepts.
I’m John North.
