How are you going to find out what God wants to say to you today? How are you going to find God’s guidance in the decisions you’re facing in your life right now? How are you going to become more sensitive to the voice of God in your heart? How are you going to know how to talk to people who have spiritual questions in their lives?
Only one way
By taking time with God in His Word every day.
Psalm 119, which we’re reading this week in verse 105, says:
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.
See, it’s God’s word that guides our way. You know, a lamp in those days was not very bright. At night it would only cost enough light really to show you your next step.
And that’s the way the Bible is. It doesn’t show you 5, 10 years from now, but it gives you guidance for right now in your life. Are you taking time every day to read God’s word, to study it?
He goes on:

I have sworn, and I will confirm it, that I will keep your righteous ordinances. I am exceedingly afflicted. Revive me, O Lord, according to your word. Oh, accept the free will offerings of my mouth, O Lord, and teach me your ordinances. My life is continually in my hand, yet I do not forget your law.
The wicked have laid a snare for me. Yet I have not gone astray from your precepts. I have inherited your testimonies forever, for they are the joy of my heart. I have inclined my heart to perform your statutes forever, even to the end.
Your testimonies are the joy of my heart. I have inclined my heart to perform your statutes forever, even to the end.
What a blessing God’s word is in my life, and I know it can be in your life too.
Isn’t it true that so often reading God’s Word – God just speaks to us. He convicts us. He shows us we’re off track. we’re walking away from Him, and He brings us back into fellowship with Him through His Word.
And there’s so much joy in it.
Your testimonies are the joy of my heart, the psalmist says. I sure identify with that, and I hope you do too, that God meets with you in His Word. God speaks with us. And you notice how much he says about the heart in this passage. They are the joy of my heart. I have inclined my heart to perform your statutes forever.
Have you learned that you can choose where your heart is set.
If you don’t choose, your heart will just go wherever it wants, but you can choose to set your heart on something, and you can choose to set your heart on God’s Word.
To allow God’s Word to lead your heart to what it should be focusing on, to what is most important in life, to what should matter to it, to what should excite it, what should upset it, God has given you His Word in your life to utterly transform your life.
Set your heart on God’s Word today.
