And this is the message I proclaim—that the day is coming when God, through Christ Jesus, will judge everyone’s secret life. (NLT)
Having a secret can make us feel privileged, or even proud. We might know something that others do not know. Some such secrets are meant to kept and not spread all around the place. We need to be people who can be trusted to keep secrets when it is right to do so.
Even in our closest relationships, secrets may be kept. It is an abuse of power and a type of control that insists on others telling us all they know. Truthfulness does not always mean blabbing all our secrets to someone.
Of course, it is wrong to deceive another person, but keeping a secret is not necessarily deceit. It might be best for that other person whom we value to remain in the dark about certain things. Then again, sometimes love might require us to reveal a secret or two. Wise discernment is needed as to when to spill the beans and when to zip our lips.
When it comes to our God and creator, there are no secrets. Those things we might rightly keep from loved ones, cannot be kept from the all-knowing God. Those secrets which cause us shame are known to the God who has determined to love us come what may.
Our lives can never be an open book before others. Full disclosure of every fragment of our lives will not necessarily benefit ourselves or others. But to our father, we are already an open book. He knows all about us and loves us just the same
Blessings,
David
