But those sacrifices are an annual reminder of sins. It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins… But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool.

Good morning. Well, as you start your Friday, I’m sure you’re looking forward to the end of Friday. But in order to do Friday well, let’s hear what God has to say to us.
We’ve been reading in Hebrews chapter 10 in the Bible this week. Here’s what he says today. Now just prepare your mind because this is a bit of a challenging passage today.
He says in verse 26:
For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgement and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment do you think will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified and has outraged the Spirit of grace.
For we know him who said, Vengeance is mine. I will repay. And again, the Lord will judge His people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

Well, you can see why I said that it’s a challenging passage today, can’t you? You know, so often when we talk about God and about the Bible, we kind of head to those passages that make us feel good or that encourage us or in some way seem positive, but God isn’t just about making us feel good, is he? He’s about what’s right. He’s about doing what’s right. And he says to us – I have made a way for you to be forgiven. Yes, you deserve judgement. You deserve to face my anger for all that you’ve done that has offended me, but in spite of that – My Son Jesus is going to go to the cross for you. He’s going to become a man so that he can be your representative. He’s going to live without offending me, so he doesn’t deserve to face my judgement, and yet he’s going to face it for you. That’s how much I love you. That’s called grace, not you doing what you can to try and earn my forgiveness, but rather me giving you forgiveness that you could never earn no matter what you did, because Jesus has earned it for you when He lived without sin and then died on the cross, and because of that I’ve raised Him from the dead, and you can know Him today.
I mean, it’s just amazing what God has done for us.
But then God says to us, as reflected in this passage of the Bible.
If you reject what I’ve done for you – it’s as if you’re trampling underfoot the Son of God and profaning the blood of the covenant, all that He’s done for you and outraged the Spirit of grace, my Holy Spirit that I’ve sent into your life to just reach out to you.
To let you know that I love you and care for you and what I’ve done for you and if when you realise yes it really is true God is reaching out to me, God is offering me forgiveness if you still say no and push me away and say you don’t want me in your life then – I am outraged that you would do that, and the Lord will judge, and as the last verse says, it’s a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.
I don’t want you to face that judgement of God when you come to the end. I want you to experience His love, His grace, His forgiveness. He’s done everything for us when we had done nothing for Him. We don’t deserve it, and yet God has offered us forgiveness. Please don’t reject what God is willing to do for you in your life, because the consequences are truly devastating.
Say yes to God today and thank Him for His forgiveness in your life.
