Dear friends, this is now my second letter to you. I have written both of them as reminders to stimulate you to wholesome thinking. I want you to recall the words spoken in the past by the holy prophets and the command given by our Lord and Saviour through your apostles.

Make listening to God through daily Bible reading a consistent part of your life so He can continually remind, guide and reshape you according to His purposes.
Key reflections:
- Prioritise time each day to listen to God through His Word, allowing Him to shape your thinking, perspective and daily decisions.
- Regularly read the Bible and remain open to God’s reminders, recognising that He often uses Scripture to speak directly into your current circumstances and needs.

Good Monday morning. As you get going with this week, I want us to start the week the best way possible, and that is by listening to God. As you organise your life, make sure you always leave room to listen to God.
Listening to God is one of the foundational things about the Christian life. Otherwise you’re just living the way you can come up with. But when you listen to God, He shapes your mind. He shapes your worldview. He helps you see life from His perspective, and that changes everything.
We’re looking this week at the 3rd chapter of the book of 2 Peter in the Bible, and Peter is writing a letter. This is what he says.
This is now the 2nd letter that I am writing to you, beloved. In both of them I am stirring up your sincere mind by way of reminder that you should remember the predictions of the holy prophets and the commandment of the Lord and saviour through your apostles.
Now before we go on to what he’s reminding them of, just think about what he says. I’m writing to you to stir up your sincere mind by way of reminder. These people are sincere. They love God. They want to live with God and for God, but they still need to be reminded of some things. And isn’t that true of us as well.

If you’ve been a Christian for some time, you’ve been to church for years, you go every week and hear the Bible being taught, you’ve got so much in your mind, but you need to be reminded of it. And this is one of the great things about God’s Word and how it plays a part in our lives is that you never get tired of hearing God’s Word.
Sometimes there are books of the Bible that I’ve studied in depth. I’ve taught all the way through them over several weeks and months in a church, and yet I go and hear someone else teach on one of these passages, and it’s just full of life and meaning to me. I’m reminded and re-challenged about the things in God’s Word.
And this is one of the reasons we take time with God every morning to open the Bible and listen to Him, because we need to be reminded. We need to have our lives reshaped. It’s not enough that you went to Sunday school as a child or that you’ve been going to church for years. What have you heard from God today?
Because the way God uses His Word in our lives so often, even if you’re just moving through day by day the next chapter in the Bible or reading a daily devotional of some kind, God works it out so that just the thing you need to hear is what comes up today.
I wonder if you’ve ever experienced that. Sometimes it seems like everyone’s in collusion. The preacher on Sunday says something that speaks right into your situation as if he knew about it, and then you pick up a book, and as you read it, it challenges you in the same way. And then you hear something on the radio, and it speaks to that very point in your life. This is the way God works.
And so today as we’re talking about the way God uses His Word in your life, I just want to challenge you to put in place in your daily plan for your life, not just tuning in at this time each morning, but having some time on your own with your Bible open in front of you, listening to God. He wants to remind you of things you need to hear.
I’m John North.
