Every day 4.5 million Australians eat fast food.

As the obesity epidemic takes its toll on the nation’s health, state and federal government are looking for innovative new ways to encourage people to make healthier choices.

Soon, fast food outlets like McDonalds and KFC could be required to display kilojoule counts on their menus so customers can compare the energy in various menu items.

Tony Thirwell is the CEO of the Heart Foundation in NSW, and they would like to see salt and fat details added to menu boards as well.
