Good Wednesday morning.
Getting started with the day, there’s nothing better than to start it with some time with God.
When you read the Bible, God speaks to you. When you read other books, you just get some information. They may even be very thought provoking, good books with principles for life, but there’s something different about the Bible in that God’s Holy Spirit really speaks personally to you as you read the Bible with an open heart, inviting God to be active in your life.
Well, each weekday morning at this time we take this time with God, and this week we’re talking about the big rocks of life, the important things to put into your life and things that should not be squeezed out by the other things in life. Put these things in place first and fit the other things of life around them.
We talked on Monday that we need to put our daily time with God first in our lives and organize the rest of life around it, and it’s best to do that by starting your day with your Bible open, asking God to speak to you. The second big rock in life is work and the pattern God gives us even from His own activity. In 6 days he created the world and then he rested.
And the challenge to us to work hard, not to mooch off other people, not to be lazy, not to be idle, but to work hard and earn what we need in life.
The 3rd big rock in life is time with your family.
You can’t read the Bible and miss out on the importance of family to God and the importance of family to you in God’s design for human life.

You see early in the Bible – the pictures of the family life with Adam and Eve and their boys are presented.
You see, as you move on through the Bible, you come to the 10 Commandments, and one of these 10 most foundational rules of life from God’s perspective is this: Honor your father and mother.
Right, one of the 10 commandments, you come to the New Testament, and Jesus paints a picture of healthy family. He says even when he’s teaching on prayer, if your child asks you for bread, you won’t give them a stone. Instead. If they ask you for fish, you won’t give them a scorpion. If then you know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your father in heaven give what is good to those who ask him.
Well, Jesus is saying that just as God relates to us as a father to his children, that’s what he wants our family life to be like. When you come to the apostle Paul, he also takes time to teach about the family. Fathers, he says, don’t provoke your children to anger. Love your wife. To wives – respect your husband. To children – obey your parents.
In the book of Hebrews, the writer of Hebrews talks about how parents discipline their children to help them grow to be healthy, righteous people, and that this often isn’t pleasant, but it’s good. All of this shows us how important your family is to your life.
And that this is one of the big rocks in life. And you know, we talked yesterday about the second big rock being work.
But so often we can get so caught up with our work that there’s no time for our families, and this is not what God’s plan for your life is right?
This is not what God’s plan for your life is. If you don’t have room for family time in your life, then something is not right in the balance in your life, and God wants you to rearrange your life. Put family time as one of the big rocks in your life. The amount of time is going to be different for each person and each family situation, but make sure that you and your family know how significant to you is time with them.
