Professor Carole Cusack in conversation with Stephen O’Doherty

St Patrick’s Day, 17th of March, is probably the most widely recognised Feast Day of any Saint. It’s also a day when almost anyone can lay claim to being at least a bit Irish.

The Feast Day of St Patrick is celebrated around the world with parades and events celebrating Irish culture.

There is almost a  mythical quality to Patrick. He is credited for driving the snakes out of Ireland – something that didn’t happen.

So how much of what we think we know about St Patrick is real and how much is delightful Irish legend?

Was there even a real historical St Patrick and what can we say with certainty about him?

In this podcast Professor Carole Cusack, Professor of Religious studies at the University of Sydney, helps Open House sort the reality from the legend.
