“Mum, is God coming to dinner tonight?” Joel asked. “Have you invited God, Joel?” Mum replied.

Key points:

  • Mum, Is God Coming To Dinner? invites the reader to slow down and wonder – have we set a place for God?
  • The message of this book is beautiful for all readers young and old.
  • He is always with us, but we shouldn’t ever take that for granted.

Louise Bonner, Christian and Australian author, put pencil to paper and brought us this little book; that while sweet, also carries a weighty message.

Mum, Is God Coming To Dinner? invites the reader to slow down and think about the gift that it is to enjoy not only our family’s company, but also – have we set a place for God?

My daughters were very quick to chime in with “but mum, God is ALWAYS with us, we don’t need to invite Him!” (there may have even been a sigh!) so I rephrased it:

Have we set a place at the table for God?

If I put on my walking shoes, got the dog on his leash and walked out the front door without inviting you, how would you feel?

A pause…

‘I’d feel a bit sad and lonely’ (My 7 year old)

Exactly.

The message of this book is beautiful for all readers young and old.

The wording is easy for children to understand and read themselves; the pictures are simple, expressive and sweet; and the message is beautiful for all readers young and old – slow down, look around with gratefulness, and be sure to invite God into the moment.

Yes, He is always with us, but we shouldn’t ever take that for granted.

He is always with us, but we shouldn’t ever take that for granted.

Tell Him you want Him there, ask Him to sit at your table and watch how your day begins to look a little bit brighter!

This book would make a great gift for the little people in your life.

I give this book 5 stars out of five.
