Good morning.

As you start this day, I just want you to think about the people you know in your life and how interesting life is because everybody is so different to one another, right?

My wife is so outgoing and reaches out to everybody she knows. My daughter is extremely introverted and yet with people she knows well, she is so much fun. My son is a real thinker. Both my sons.

Everybody is different. It makes life so interesting.

Everyone has their own preferences, their own tastes. You might like to eat just vegetarian food. You might love meat. Other people like spicy food or some people like much more tame food, whatever it is, you like those things and that makes you – you.

When it comes to the question of truth though, and this is our topic all this week, what is truth?

When it comes to truth, is it still a personal matter? Is it a matter of tastes? I mean, I can say I love meat. Meat tastes great, and a vegan is going to say no, meat tastes horrible.

But what about when it comes to the ultimate truths of life? The reality is, yes, everybody does choose what they will believe, right? It doesn’t matter what kind of authoritarian government a person lives under and how that government tries to force people to believe what it believes, people will believe what they believe, right?

At the same time as that reality that everyone believes what they believe, we also are impacted by the reality of truth that is external to us. That is, not all truth is just opinion. That’s a really important thing to realize in life. There are sure a lot of divisive opinions floating around in the world today, aren’t there?

From what we think of certain politicians to what we think of certain political issues, ethical issues, all sorts of opinions, and everyone thinks they’re right and everyone else is wrong, and yet in the midst of that conviction that everyone is wrong but me, we still have this underlying view in our society. Everyone has to be regarded as right or you’re being offensive, right? Everyone’s truth is true.

Well, everyone has an opinion.

But there is ultimate truth that was there before you were born. It will be there after you die. It’s just true, and it’s God’s truth.

God started everything. He designed humanity. He set the principles by which our lives operate. We can ignore that, and if we do, it’s to our own peril. It only damages our own lives if we ignore the life principles that work for everyone positively or negatively. Yes, we’re all so unique. We all have our own personality and preferences.

That’s a right no one can take away, and we have to respect everyone’s freedom to believe what they want. That is not the same as saying that everyone’s belief is truth.

That is, there’s a lot of people’s beliefs about life that do not match up to the life principles that God has put in place, and we just see people constantly destroying their lives and the lives of the people close to them all while following those beliefs.

In John chapter 8 verses 31 and 32, Jesus said to the people who had believed in Him.

If you remain in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth and the truth will set you free. A few verses later, he said, Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. So if the son, talking about himself, the Son of God – if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed. I speak of what I have seen with my father.

Find your truth from Jesus and from His word, the Bible.
