Good morning.
We’re talking all this week about the big rocks in life, the important things that often aren’t urgent, and so they get squeezed out by other things, either by the pressures of all that has to be done or just by entertainment that tends to soak up our time and fill up our days. The important things need to be put in place first, and then even the urgent things fit in around them.
What are the important things? What are these big rocks that we need to put in place in our life first? Well, Monday we saw daily time with God, and the best way to make sure it doesn’t get squeezed out is to do it first in your day.
Second is work. This is a foundational value of God for your life. Don’t be lazy. Don’t be idle. Work hard. Earn what you need to for life and family.
Third is family time, and we saw yesterday how important this is to God, how foundational a part of your life this is. Don’t let it get squeezed out by other things. Family time.
The 4th big rock I want to suggest to you for your life is your fellowship with other Christians and your commitment to your local church.
The Bible again points out how important this is for us, that it is a big rock in our lives. In Hebrews chapter 3, the writer of Hebrews says this starting in verse 12. Take care, brothers and sisters, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart leading you to fall away from the living God.
But rather you can see you don’t want that to happen to you. Rather exhort or encourage one another every day as long as it is cold today so that none of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.

Other things that want to crowd out the important things in life and tend to make you self-focused, self-centered, and missing out on what God wants for your life. In chapter 10 of Hebrews, the same book, he says this starting in verse 24.
He says and let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good deeds, not neglecting to meet together as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another and all the more as you see the day drawing near.
Well, don’t neglect to meet together, he says, as is the habit of some, and I want to tell you that when the Bible refers to the church, it refers to it as the body of Christ, and we are members of that body. It also refers to it as the family of God and your brothers and sisters in Christ, who are your fellow Christians.
It’s so important in your life to put this in as a big rock in your life, to spend time with people who are also pursuing God, to encourage each other in that relationship with God, to study the Bible together, to listen to God, to pray together, to encourage one another.
Don’t let what has happened with COVID and lockdowns keep you from getting back to fellowship with the believers at church. Make this a core part of your life, a big rock that helps to shape the rest of your life.
