Psalm 124 — A ‘Time With God’ Audio Devotion

Good morning. I’m John North here to start your day with you and start it right by taking some time with God.

Have you stopped yet today to have some time with God?

Have you said good morning Lord and started a daylong conversation with God.

It doesn’t mean you’re talking all day, consciously speaking to God, but you begin a conversation and the lines are open for communication. You’re listening to God.

You’re speaking to Him things that are on your mind. There’s an openness and a fellowship between you and God. That’s the way every day of your life can be. If you learn to make your Christian life relational, you in relationship with God.

We’re looking at some Psalms this week and today we come to Psalm 124 – Written by David.

He writes:

Had it not been the Lord who was on our side, let Israel now say, had it not been the Lord who was on our side when men rose up against us.

Then they would have swallowed us alive when their anger was kindled against us. Then the waters would have engulfed us. The stream would have swept over our soul. Then the raging waters would have swept over our soul.

Blessed be the Lord who has not given us to be torn by their teeth. Our soul has escaped as a bird out of the snare of the trapper. The snare is broken and we have escaped.

Our help is in the name of the Lord who made heaven and earth.

What a beautiful psalm. If it hadn’t been the Lord who was on our side when people rose up against us, we would have been in big trouble, is what he says.

Have you ever been at the point in your life where you just wanted to give up?

Maybe you say, well, give up what?

I mean the kind of time when there are so many pressures in your life, coming from so many different angles, and many of them deep emotional stresses. And you finally get to the point where you just feel like I can’t handle it anymore. I can’t take it.

And everything becomes a mountain to you.

When you get to that point. Remember God.

I’m not saying you’ve forgotten him.

But just remember that he is on your side, that he is with you, that he is supporting you.

As David ends this Psalm by saying, Our help is in the name of the Lord who made heaven and earth. God is there for you. If He hadn’t been on your side. You would have given up long ago. I know I would have.

But He is on your side.

Because you are his child, if you’ve come to Him in faith and put your trust in what Jesus Christ has done for you on the cross, you’ve become the child of God, and God is working for you in your life.

Why don’t you take some time right now and ask God to get involved in the issues of your life right now that are causing you great stress.
