As we head into a Friday, we want to start it by spending time with God – time with God – the most important time in your life. I hope you’ve come to realise that, that time with God sets the agenda for your life.
If you don’t spend time with God, your agenda is just set by this world, by the circumstances of your life, whether they’re good or bad. They determine whether you’ll be happy, up, down, whatever. But when you learn to build your life on the Word of God, then God sets the agenda for your life. Your life is not dictated by your circumstances, but by your relationship with God, God’s leading in your life, God’s purpose for your life – these things, your relationship with him.
We’re looking today at Psalm 122.
David writes:
I was glad when they said to me, Let us go to the house of the Lord. Talk about the temple in Jerusalem in that day, but the place where we gather together for worship today.
I was glad when they said to me, Let us go to the house of the Lord. Our feet are standing within your gates, O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, that is built as a city that is compact together, to which the tribes go up, even the tribes of the Lord, an ordinance for Israel to give thanks to the name of the Lord.
For their thrones were set for judgement, the thrones of the house of David.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem. May they prosper who love you. May peace be within your walls and prosperity within your palaces.
For the sake of my brothers and my friends, I will now say, may peace be within you. For the sake of the house of the Lord our God, I will seek your good.
This psalm was specifically written for Israelites who were on a journey to Jerusalem to worship at the temple, and so there’s so much about their desire for God’s blessing on their nation and on the city of Jerusalem.
As we apply it to our lives though, can you say with David what he said in the first verse and apply it too?
The time when you gather with other believers maybe Sunday morning or Sunday evening at church, I was glad when they said to me, Let us go to the house of the Lord. What makes you glad about going to church?
I can tell you the things that make me glad, the things I love about going to church. I love the worship of God.
I love it when together as a group of people we sing songs that lift our hearts to God. So often my heart is feeling a bit dry, but when I go in there and we start singing together, my attention is again focused on God, who He is, what He’s done for us.
I love the sense of the presence of God that is there when we’re gathered together with other believers who are all hungry for God.
God meets with us in a special way when we are there as a body in unison turned to Him.
Why do we love to go to the house of God? Well, there’s the fellowship that we have with other people who are seeking the Lord.
It’s just so great to get together with other believers and to share with them our love for the Lord and to talk about the things that really matter and to pray with one another and pray for one another. Prayer, one of the best things about getting together with other believers.
Time for God.
Isn’t it great that here is a part of our week that is set aside to bring our focus back to God, time for God and the refocusing of my life.
I am so glad to go to church. Are you?
