“But whatever were gains to me I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord,” the Apostle Paul

Transcript

Good morning. We’re talking all this week about the 5 most important things in life, and we’ve been going straight to the Bible to see what God has to say about the important things in our lives. Well, you know as you learn to come to the Bible every day of your life and let God inform your life, God then starts to build your life into what he wants to make of it. And your life becomes truly meaningful and significant.

And I use that word, build your life very intentionally because, you know, life doesn’t just fall together into the way it ought to be, right?

And even when you become a Christian, it doesn’t mean that it’s just like snapping your fingers and everything is great and easy in life working the way it should. No, you have to build your life to be what God wants it to be, and God wants to be involved in that shaping, building your life. It’s every day putting God’s word into your life, listening to God, getting to know God, growing in your relationship with Him, applying the principles of His Word to your life, that you build your life to what it needs to be.

When you look at some people in your life who seem to just walk closely with God and sense that God is leading and guiding them, and he’s using them in other people’s lives, and you think, I wish I could be like that, but that’s so far from who I am and what I am, I could never be like that.

Well, in a sense, you’re right, you can’t just become like that all of a sudden.

But do you know how that person became that way? They built their life around God and His Word. Well, that’s one of the reasons why every weekday morning at this time we open the Bible and see what God has to say to us. I encourage you to begin building your life around your relationship with God. It’s going to take time. There’ll be years of your life as you grow as a Christian.

Well, the 5 most important things in life, we’ve covered 4 of them.

Number 1, your personal relationship with God.

Number 2, the word of God and its role in your life.

Number 3, your family.

Number 4, the family of God, the other believers in your life.

And number 5, most important thing in your life is the people in your life who don’t know God yet.

And you know God is making such a difference in your life. You think of the hopelessness of life before God became the centre of your life and how God has impacted and changed your life. There’s so many people who are in your life who just don’t know God yet, and they need what God is doing in your life. You may be listening this morning, and you would say, I’m one of those people who doesn’t know God yet.

You may be religious, you may not be religious, but you know that you don’t have a personal relationship with God. Well, if there’s a real Christian in your life that you know knows God, just ask them about it. Say, tell me about your relationship with God. How did you get to know God? How can I get to know God? And if you are a Christian, you have to realise God is at work in your life, but God has also put you into the lives of other people who He wants to introduce Himself to, and who’s He going to introduce Himself to them through?

Well, it’s you. That’s why he’s put you in their lives.

Jesus said to the disciples, just as the Father sent me into the world, I also am sending you into the world.

Well, you need to include yourself in that ‘you‘.

God is sending you into your world, into the lives of the people you know who don’t know Him. Everybody needs to encounter God in their lives. Something is missing in their lives until they encounter God. You remember when Jesus finished his time on Earth. His final words before returning to be with the Father in heaven were:

You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses.

That’s His plan for you, yes, to live your life, to enjoy life, to provide for your family, to do all these things, but never forget, whatever else you do, your identity, Jesus says is, you will be my witnesses.

You need to be talking to people in your life about Him. Just let them know. Talk to them about what God is doing in your life, how He’s answering your prayers, your struggles, and that He’s meeting you in them. Don’t pretend that everything’s cool and easy and great because you’re a Christian. Be honest, be real. Let them see God and then share with them how God can be a part of their lives too.
