Surfers across the world caught waves last weekend in support of a united cause.

The Bible.

More specific: The Surfers Bible and raising money to fund its distribution.

Every wave that surfers caught during the 24-hour global surfathon on Saturday, October 28, was sponsored.

Each $11 raised will see a Surfers Bible printed and given to a surfer who has never read God’s word.

Jono Bailey from Christian Surfers Australia told Hope Mornings that the Surfers Bible is all about “sharing the stoke” of knowing Jesus with the surfing community.

“Most surfers would identify as being spiritual people,” Jono said.

“For a lot of surfers, in their version of spirituality, it is connecting with the elements, nature, the ocean.

“At times, there can be a little bit of a disconnect between what they might perceive as an old religion.

“The idea of Christian Surfers is to bridge that gap [between] the ocean and beach, and the local church.

“He formed it all – and is so committed and in love with that particular surfer that he would die on the cross and rise again for their eternal life.

“The Surfers Bible is the best resource we have for that.

Christian Surfers International is a global surfing movement seeking to “awaken” spirituality to the gospel of Jesus Christ.

In 38 nations, it serves local surfing communities with more than 1,000 volunteers.

“Our goal is to help surfers understand that the waves they ride and nature they admire has a beautiful creator,” Jono said.

“He formed it all – and is so committed and in love with that particular surfer that he would die on the cross and rise again for their eternal life.
