Read John 5:22-23
22 The Father judges no one but has given all judgment to the Son,23 so that all may honour the Son just as they honour the Father. Anyone who does not honour the Son does not honour the Father who sent him. (NRSV)
It seems lots of people still believe in God. Some see this as an encouraging sign of spirituality. Not so fast! There may be a desire to have a belief in a supreme being, there may be a perception of a deity in the minds and imaginations of some. But this can so easily be a mere figment of the imagination,a projection of our desires and wishes.
Jesus’ words here remind us that it is what we think of him that matters. To believe in God and reject Jesus’ testimony about himself is to believe in a God other than that of the Scriptures. A God we have made up.
Christians want to declare that not only do they believe in God,but they believe in Jesus as being God in human form. They believe that what Jesus said about God,what he revealed about God,is true. It is not an option to discard Jesus and create a separate God. It is not an option to embrace Jesus and reject the God of the Bible.
It is a package deal. If we question our own religious ideas or the ideas of others,it is the opinions of Jesus that matter. When it comes to Christianity,it truly is all about Jesus.
