Renovation Relief Winner Revealed, Spannenberg & Son Chose a Family Supporting Refugees

A missionary family of nine, the Blair family, who work to support young refugees in South West Sydney, are the deserving winners of the Spannenberg & Son $45,000 Renovation Relief package.

The Blair family have been helping refugees in Sydney’s south-west with “felt-needs” including learning to drive or English, or helping with homework and other practical assistance. They have also supported them in processing and healing from the trauma they’ve suffered.

Dad Cameron said they have used the opportunity to introduce them to a God who “loves them and cares for them”.

“And sharing stories about Jesus with them. That’s what we do,” Cameron said.

“Oh, my goodness. That is amazing! Praise God. Oh, thank you very much. That’s amazing. That is fantastic. Praise God,” – Cameron Blair, winner of Spannenberg & Son $45K Renovation Relief

As part of their entry submission, Cameron shared why they were in great need of the renovation relief package.

“Our house is tired and worn out, so it needs renovation but we live off a low income, which comes from ministry donations, so we can’t afford to do any major repairs,” Cameron said.

While spending a year in Cambodia doing mission work, the Blair family returned to find their tenant hadn’t looked after their property, causing further damage, and making the renovations all the more urgent.

Spannenberg & Son director Ben Spannenberg said the hard part about this campaign was that he would have liked to have helped every home that entered.

“I was initially overwhelmed [by all of the entries], but I prayed, and also with my pastor and a few others,” Ben said.

“After making this choice, I have much joy and peace and am so looking forward to meeting this family – to help them out, to be a blessing to them and to display the love of our Lord Jesus our God and saviour.

I can see Cameron and Lara do much for others, and the time is to help them. They have seven children and we want to show that God loves them also and will bless them.”

Hope Breakfast host Sam Robinson had the best job of the campaign – calling Cameron and Lara to let them know they had won the renovation package from Spannenberg & Son for their family and the community they serve.

“Oh, my goodness. That is amazing! Praise God. Oh, thank you very much. That’s amazing. That is fantastic. Praise God,” Cameron said, on hearing that he and his family had won.

Cameron described his home as their “mission’s base”.

“It’s where we plan and strategise and meet and pray,” he said.

“And it’s a place where we have people over, (including) our refugee friends.”

Cameron said that receiving the Spannenberg & Son renovation will improve the family’s living conditions and “greatly help us to focus on our ministry amongst vulnerable refugee youth”.
