Listen: Glenn Coombs from Scripture Union chats to Sam and Duncan about Summer Camp.
When all of NSW was declared drought-affected in August this year, the team at Hope 103.2 began putting our heads together to see how we could make a difference.
After talking to some of the hard-working ministry organisations in the Central West, we’ve decided to support families in Gilgandra – a town north of Dubbo that’s been doing it really tough – by helping kids get to summer camp.
In partnership with Scripture Union and Bush Church Aid, we’re aiming to send a group of 25 young people from Gilgandra High School on a Scripture Union Summer Camp, that will bring joy and encouragement over the school holidays.
How You Can Help
We’re calling on the ‘Hopeland’ community of Hope 103.2 listeners, to think about helping a student to attend the Chaffey Dam Water Sports Camp – a week of fun and action, music, camping out, and Christian ministry.
All this week until December 14, you’ll have the opportunity to donate, with our announcers chatting on air to some of the organisations involved, as well as young people who’ve attended Summer Camp in the past.
If our target is exceeded, all extra funds raised will still go towards sending kids in country NSW to Scripture Union camps.
Keep Praying for Rain
The good news is that large parts of NSW enjoyed above-average rainfall in November, including the drought-burdened Central West—but that doesn’t mean the drought’s over.
As any farming community knows, even if the skies were to open today and send rain for months on end, it can take years to recover from the financial devastation of the lean times they’ve been through.
Hope 103.2 is encouraging people of faith to continue to pray– for long-term rain that breaks the drought, financial relief, and for both emotional and practical help to reach those who are in need.
