If you love the sound of V8 engines, the shine of McLarens and Ferraris, and the smell of burning rubber mingled with petrol, then the Jesus Racing Family Event in October is for you.

Organiser Andrew ‘Fishtail’ Fisher and his Jesus Racing Team have just celebrated their 200th V8 Ute race, but Andrew’s hardly stopping for breath — planning the October 31 family event with his typical energy and speed.

Andrew told Hope Media the day is a great chance for Christians to bring a friend to a non-threatening and fun environment.

“The whole idea of Jesus racing is to entertain, engage, impact and challenge, and to challenge peoples’ understanding of what a Christian is,” he said.

He’s calling on believers to think about who would enjoy such a high-octane event and extend the invitation to them.

Infused With A Message Of Faith

There won’t be any preaching, but the day will be subtlely infused with the Christian message, and videos about Jesus Racing will play through the day.

Andrew held a similar event for men last year, called “Life in the Fastlane”, which attracted 700 men and had very positive feedback.

“We had people saying it’s a great fun event, it’s comfortable, but not churchy,” he said.

“Statistics show that 60 percent of people say they don’t know a Christian. But I don’t think that’s the case. I think the issue is, 60 percent of people don’t know someone who’s willing to speak up about their faith.”

He said he aimed to hold events that helped break down the barriers to the topic of faith.

“It’s a non-churchy environment, culturally sensitive and heaps of fun, but the message of our faith is still demonstrated in all aspects of what we do,” he said.

What Is Jesus Racing?

Andrew Fisher established his Jesus Racing team to challenge the paradigms of Australians who believed Christians were no fun.

Believing people would never expect to see a Christian racing car at 300km/h, he stepped out in faith with the name of Jesus emblazoned all over his race vehicles.

He originally considered having something subtle on his cars, like a fish emblem. It was his wife who encouraged him to represent his faith boldly with his large “Jesus” logo. He aims to embody the “life to the full” that Jesus said he came to give to humanity.
