Scripture Guidelines in NSW are Sound:
Providers

Providers of Christian scripture classes in NSW say the Department’s Guidelines for enrolment are sound despite claims some schools are not following them.

A recent report drew attention to two schools where the guidelines, which provide opt-in provisions and alternative classes, were allegedly not adhered to.

The group representing scripture providers says suggestions of non-compliance represent very isolated incidents and do not represent any systemic issues.

Murray Norman, General Manager of Presbyterian Youth and a spokesman for the church providers, says it is in everyone’s interests for the guidelines to properly be adhered to.

Mr Norman told Open House that scripture providers work closely with the NSW Department of Education to ensure churches and volunteer teachers are fully aware of their obligations.
