At the Australian Law Awards gala awards night, Salvos Legal beat five other billion-dollar-a-year-turnover legal firms to win Australian Legal Firm of the Year.
The unique social enterprise model is set up to fund humanitarian work.
The Salvation Army runs two legal companies, a regular law-firm called Salvos Legal that charges clients for their work and Salvos Legal Humanitarian, which provides free legal services to people in need. All the work of Salvos Legal Humanitarian is fully funded by the commercial legal fees charged by Salvos Legal.
“A small church-owned social enterprise law-firm got to show them what we’re made of,” says Luke Geary from Salvos Legal. “We’re all very excited.”
