Operation Unity is a nationwide crackdown by police on alcohol-related violence.  Over the last weekend police arrested more than 700 people for alcohol related crimes.

According to NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione, 70% of crime on our streets is alcohol related.  And 2 million Australians are seriously affected by somebody else’s drinking.
 
Just as the connection between smoking and cancer has now been firmly established, the link between alcohol abuse and crime is just as strong. But it will take more than a police operation to change the culture of drinking in this country, as Andrew Scipione told Katrina Roe.
