Australia’s foreign minister Marise Payne is calling for the release of two Australians currently being detained overseas.

Australian journalist, news presenter and mother-of-two Cheng Lei has been detained in China since August – she’s been accused of selling state secrets or intelligence overseas.

Meanwhile, her children remain in Australia with their grandmother, after being sent home due to the pandemic.

The other detainee is economics academic Sean Turnell, who worked with the Myanmar Government and is being detained by the military as a result of the recent coup.
