A heartwarming video of a little French boy and his father, being interviewed at a memorial site for those killed in the November 14 attacks on Paris, has gone viral on social media.
The interview, by French TV show Le Petit Journal, shows a reporter asking a little boy if he understands what happened and why the terrorists attacked. The little boy replies, “because they’re really really mean”.
He then says they will have to “be careful” and move away, but his father reassures him, saying, “Oh no, don’t worry, we don’t need to move out. France is our home.”
After the boy says, “but there’s bad guys, Daddy, they can shoot us,” his wise father responds with profound words of wisdom.
“It’s OK, they might have guns but we have flowers,” the father says.
When the boy protests, “But flowers don’t do anything,” his Daddy says, “Of course they do, look – everyone is [bringing] flowers. It’s to fight against guns.”
“It’s to protect?” he says. “Exactly,” replies Dad.
“And the candles too?” asks the boy. “It’s to remember the people who are gone yesterday,” the Father replies.
The little boy then concludes, “the flowers and candles are here to protect us,” and smiles at his father.
He tells the reporter he feels better knowing they are protected.
