In 2018, one of Lottie’s New Year’s resolutions was to be better to the planet. However, she didn’t know where to start. She spent weeks doing research and trying to choose the best products to start her journey, eventually settling on buying a set of stainless-steel straws from what she thought was a sustainable company. However, when they came individually wrapped in plastic, Lottie knew she had to take matters into her own hands.

Soon afterwards, Lottie founded Banish – a one-stop sustainable marketplace and educational resource to help Australians reduce their waste with the right products, tools and information.

The Australian of the Year Awards can be viewed on Wednesday 25 January at 7.30pm on ABC and ABC iView.
