David Williams believes that everyone should be able to find their own voice, and use it confidently.

That’s why 22 years ago, David founded Confident Speakers, which has helped those with intellectual disabilities advocate for themselves.

Through a structured monthly program, Confident Speakers gives participants the skills they need to communicate their views and participate productively in the community. This program, paired with David’s passion and care, has helped countless individuals grow in confidence – some of whom were non-verbal before joining the program! Confident Speakers has seen participants present at international conferences, including World Down Syndrome Day at the United Nations.

David also runs the Special Olympics Athlete Leadership Program, and received the Local Hero for the ACT in 2019.  Sam and Duncan were honoured to chat to David about his work, and how it has impacted the disabled community, as well as broader society.
