Last year Kevin Lee attracted headlines when he left his Glenmore Park ministry as a Catholic parish priest after revealing he had been secretly married for 12 months. After 20 years in the Priesthood, Mr Lee had unexpectedly fallen in love with a Phillipino woman he met doing karaoke!

Kevin Lee hoped his story would help change the requirement of celibacy for Catholic Priests. He believed they would be better at their jobs if they were allowed to marry, have families and experience the same joys and struggles as their parishioners.

Tragically, Mr Lee never got to experience the new life he had chosen. He was recently killed in Typhoon Haiyan in the Phillipines after going out for his daily swim. He died just five weeks after becoming a father to baby Michelle.

Caroline Overington is a novelist and journalist with Australian Women’s Weekly who recently wrote a profile piece about Kevin Lee and interviewed him extensively about his faith, his marriage and his time in the priesthood. She says Mr Lee was a unusually courageous man who was willing to risk everything for love.
