International Men’s Health Week is celebrated every year around the world in the middle of June.

It is an important opportunity to highlight the importance of men’s health, and to promote and support the health and wellbeing of men and boys in our communities. The week focuses not just on physical health, but also men’s mental health and emotional wellbeing.

Ally and Brendan caught up with Ryder Jack from Tomorrow Man to discuss the importance of recognising Men’s Health Week and discussed ways we can all play a part in building healthy environments for men and boys.

Ryder Jack from Tomorrow Man has seen the positive impact of challenging traditional notions of masculinity and creating environments where men can explore life beyond the stereotype.

Tomorrow Man was established to help change the horrific statistics surrounding men’s mental health today. Their goal is to “go where boys and men gather” to create training grounds that build emotional muscle and spaces free of judgement to start conversations.

Ryder has more than 15 years experience facilitating workshops. As a keen footballer and dad of two boys, he has seen the positive impact of challenging traditional notions of masculinity and creating environments where men can explore life beyond the stereotype.

“We’re great at banter, but we’re not so good at having conversations that have a bit of emotional intensity… normalising those conversations to better prepare you for life,” Ryder said.
