Ben Boland is an aged care chaplain in Queensland. He’s a big advocate for looking after older people in better, more sensitive and effective ways.

He’s also a husband, father and Christian. And a man who has lived with the “black dog” of depression for decades.

Ben spoke with Hope Afternoons about why finding meaning and purpose – particularly in Jesus Christ – have been so beneficial to him.

He also thinks it will do wonders for the rest of us.

“Having meaning and purpose in your life, irrespective of whether you are living with mental health issues, is critical to maintaining your mental health,” Ben said.

“It’s not simply for those who have struggled with mental health; I have for many years.

“It’s for everyone and it’s really important.”
