If you’re diabetic, or know someone who is, you might be familiar with the concept of the Glycemic Index. The GI refers to the rate at which sugar is released into the bloodstream after a meal is consumed.
You sometimes see the Low-GI symbol on certain carbohydrate food products, such as breads. But is Low-GI food better for everyone – even those who don’t have a problem with their blood sugar? And how can you tell what the GI of a certain food is if it’s not on the label?
Jenny Brand-Miller is a Professor of Human Nutrition at the University of Sydney and she explains just what low-GI means for your health and wellbeing. She says Low-GI has health benefits for everyone, not just those with diabetes and can even help prevent wrinkles!
