Monash University PHD candidate Daniel Steedman spoke to Hope 103.2 about Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial and how likely it is that he will be convicted or not this time around.

“Former President Trump has been accused of inciting the riots at the Capitol on January 6 – a deadly assault designed to disrupt the peaceful transfer of power to then President-elect Joe Biden,” Mr Steedman said.

“Prosecutors will be seeking to convince a sufficient number of the Republicans to join the Democrats in convicting Trump by illustrating the horror unleashed against members of Congress that day.

“Will enough Republicans agree that Trump’s actions were a betrayal to his Office and democracy at large? Seventeen would have to vote to convict Trump. Given a majority voted last week to dismiss the trial, it seems unlikely but the proceeding days are sure to be full of division and drama.”
