In the lead up to Christmas or in Black Friday sales, even the best-intentioned of us can get swept up in buying things we don’t need.
Sometimes, it’s hard to resist the temptation. But one organisation doing its bit for minimalism and sustainability is Green Connect, a not-for-profit farm in the Illawarra region.
General manager Kylie Flament shared some simple ideas, on Hope Breakfast, for living more sustainably.
“Ask yourself… where does this come from, and where will it go when you’ve finished? And that includes the packaging.”
Along with composting our kitchen scraps, Kylie suggested we take soft plastics back to the local supermarket and give them to Redcycle.
And when it comes to Christmas gifts, Kylie said we should consider what we spend money on.
“Any more than three gifts and my kids forget what they got,” Kylie said.
“Consider buying something from an op shop… There are amazing finds and you’re helping the environment. Or give experiences instead.”
