In Part 1, we saw how God cares about each step of our journey in life. So often we want to skip or bypass part of the journey because it is too hard or too painful but we must remember that each step in the journey is important because God uses it to mould us into the people he wants us to be.
Proverbs 3:5-6 says: “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.” We don’t know where the journey will lead us but we need to remember that God is going to use each aspect of the journey to help us grow in our likeness of Christ.
Most days I wish there was some other way to grow but there’s not. Growth only comes as we walk through each step of the journey with God. We can’t forget the importance of the journey! Remember God cares about each step of the journey and each step of the journey is important!
Different perspectives on life
I have discovered that different people see this life from different perspectives, thus we handle and treat it differently. The way you see this life is the way you are likely to take, handle and treat it. For example, some see this life as war or a battle ground. For people like that, you see them fighting forever, and living their lives as fighters. For such people, they fight for husbands, fight for wives, fight for children, fight for money,
Some see this life as a competition, and competition also is about winning, who comes first, who is the best. In Olympics, they say that the spirit of Olympics is to participate and not to win. But I think the reality is quite different: the spirit is to win. This means that there is a tendency to cheat when you see yourself loosing.
Some see it as a market place, to buy and sell, and they wonder at the end whether they have made profits or losses. Some see it as a restaurant, to eat, to drink and die. Some see it as a joke, and wonder whether it is funny or not. And some see it as nothing.
I do not know how you see this world.
Actor Woody Allen said, “It’s not that I’m afraid to die. I just don’t want to be there when it happens.” The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:10 “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive what is due him for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad.”
Obstacles in our journey
The bible talks about the weights that get in the way.
Two men were riding on a tandem bike going up a steep hill. They were panting and perspiring for all they were worth as they neared the top of the hill. The first man said, “That was a tough climb.” The second man said, “It certainly was. And if I hadn’t kept the brake on, we would have slid down that hill backwards.”
There are times when we need to throw off certain things that hinder our forward motion. It could be a person or persons. It could be a bad habit. It could be a bad job. It could be something secular that hinders the sacred part of our lives.
And then there’s the weariness that encounters us. Have you ever grown weary of this life or in this life? Who hasn’t? Life is hard on us.
An elderly gentleman wasn’t feeling well, and became irritated with his doctor because he wasn’t getting any better after five visits. “Look!” said the doctor, “I’m doing all I can to help you. I can’t make you any younger.” The old gentleman replied, “I wasn’t particularly interested in getting young. I just want to continue growing older.”
All kinds of things happen to us in life that cause weariness of the heart and soul or weariness of the mind and body. Our cars break down and so do our bodies. We have health problems and heart problems. One thing that makes our burdens somewhat bearable is the fact that we are not alone in this world. We humans are all in the same boat! We all suffer. We all hurt. We all experience weariness in some form or another. But we are here for one another! We should be here for one another!
Galatians 6:2 says, “Bear one another’s burdens and so fulfill the law of Christ.” We may not be able to solve everyone’s problems, but we should be sympathetic, supportive, and try to give strength to one another during times of weariness.
There is a divine winner who encourages us. So, as Hebrews 12:2 reminds us, “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross.”
Jesus Christ is the only One who can make the journey worthwhile. Why not give your life to him today. You’ll never regret it.
