What is “sin”?

In the Bible, Jesus says sin is being confident of your own righteousness and looking down on others

It’s that smug feeling – when you have a green eco shopping bag but the person next to you has plastic, or you drink a single origin espresso and look down on the person drinking instant coffee.

Jesus says that whenever we think we’re better than the person next to us, then that’s sin.

But we all do this! So what can we do?

Look to Jesus who died for us.

If we’re as good as we think we are, Jesus wouldn’t have to die for us. But he did. Because we’re not as good as we think we are.

Jesus is looking for humble people.

Yes, the sort of person who drinks instant coffee in a foam cup, and says, “Lord, have mercy on me.” (Luke 18:9-14)
