He heals the brokenhearted
and binds up their wounds. (NIV)
It has been said that we are born broken and we live by mending. The grace of God is the glue used in the mending. Ever since the first humans decided to do things their way we are born into a broken world and share in its brokenness.
This doesn’t mean that we are not capable of any good. Broken human beings can work wonders. It certainly doesn’t mean we are not of value to others or to our creator. We are valuable masterpieces even if we are tarnished.
It does mean, however, that we cannot play games of pretence whereby we claim to be totally committed to God, utterly selfless in our lives, and having all the answers to life’s incessant questions. Followers of Jesus are members of communities of the broken-hearted and our witness is tied up with our human weakness not with our human power.
We can’t claim to be superior human beings, but rather very fallible human beings who are being mended by the grace of God. We might be broken, but we can be mended by our trust in the great healer of heaven and earth.
Nothing can be fixed if we won’t face our brokenness. Anything can be fixed if we will.
Blessings
David
