Read Proverbs 5:18
18 Let your wife be a fountain of blessing for you.
Rejoice in the wife of your youth. (NLT)
We might have heard some married person confide in us that they have married the wrong person. Such an individual might even begin the process of separation and divorce before engaging in a search of the elusive ‘right one’.
Which is sad nonsense. Don’t believe the myth that there is just one divinely appointed individual in the world who is made just for you. It means that if you miss identifying that person both of you are doomed to a life of disappointment. We certainly make decisions about whom to marry very carefully. We don’t just marry anyone without reflection and consideration of our relationship with them.
But when we do marry after such consideration, that person we marry becomes the right person for us. There may be a few other people we might have married, but that is irrelevant. Our marriage commitment to one another helps us become the right people for one another. In marrying my partner, she becomes the only person for me. Our love for one another helps create ‘rightness’.
Of course one partner may be so abusive and so neglectful of the vows that the marriage might end. But where genuine love is given and received, the wife or husband of our youth can be the fountain of blessing. The possible existence of other ‘fountains’ becomes irrelevant.
Blessings
