Read Lamentations 3:22-23
22 The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases,
his mercies never come to an end;
23 they are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness. (NRSV)
One of our hardest challenges is to live ‘one day at a time’. Not letting the possibilities of the future distract us from the certainties of today. Jesus tells us to live one day at a time,trusting that he who is with us in the present will be with us in whatever future awaits us.
And our text today reminds us that God somehow equips us for each day with his mercies and his love. It is not as if God just dollops out grace in bulk quantities,same substance for everyone,mass rationing. It is as if he is pouring out his mercy and help and love to each of us individually.
Some will need courage one day and patience the next. Some will need the right words to say one day and the next day need wakefulness for a long car journey they need to make. God tailors his mercies for each person each day. So each day we receive what we need for that particular day. God hasn’t just dumped his faithfulness on us as some believable doctrinal assertion-though it is that. He gives us reminders of his faithfulness that are just right for just that day.
His mercies do not run out. There never comes a day when they are no longer available. So we can face each day confident that God has equipped us for that day,and confident that all subsequent days will be the same. Great is his faithfulness!
Blessings
