At just 15 years of age Tanya Riches wrote her way into Australia Christian Music history.
Her first song ‘Jesus What a Beautiful Name’ has become one of our nation’s favourite worship tunes, and was just the beginning of her ministry. Tanya went on to become a Hillsong Worship Leader, front her own band ‘Speaking for Sarah’, wrote her Masters on a critique of Hillsong Music, and is now back in Oz conducting field work for her doctorate thesis.
Transitioning between the worlds of traditional ministry and academic pursuit has allowed Tanya to see the way faith impacts directly on culture, and the ways we perceive worship in mainstream society.
Most recently working with Australia’s Aboriginal communities, Tanya has been exploring the impact of the Christian faith on our native culture, and joined Dwayne Jeffries on Open House to share about her experiences.
