It’s a special time of the year throughout the world, particularly for Christians, and Sydney is choc-a-block with things to do this Easter.
Key points
- Father Don Richardson, Dean of St Mary’s Cathedral extends an invitation to “commemorate the saving passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.”
- Hunt for Easter Eggs on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and at the Fairfield Showground.
- Between the European Markets, Alice in Easterland and Easter Fair, there’s something for everyone!
- Check out the Hope 103.2 Community Noticeboard for more events or find a church to visit on our Sydney Church Directory.
Whether you’re looking for family friendly church services, or a good old-fashioned egg hunt, there are plenty of options for everyone this long weekend.
Church services
At the Anglican Vine Church in Surry Hills, there’s a Good Friday Morning Communion Service (10am), followed by Hot Cross Buns (from Marickville’s Bread & Butter Project).
Then, on Easter Sunday, there is a morning and afternoon “Celebration Service” followed by a spit roast. There will be an Easter Egg Hunt for the kids after the morning service.
“I invite you to join as we commemorate the saving passion, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ,” said Father Don Richardson, Dean of St Mary’s Cathedral.
At St Mary’s Cathedral in the city there are services from Maundy Thursday to Easter Sunday. For details visit here.

Easter egg hunts
Meanwhile, the Easter at the Summit is back at the Sydney Harbour Bridge Climb.
Throughout the long weekend, kids (from 8 years old) can take part in a competition to count the number of Easter eggs as they make their way up the iconic structure.
Hunt for Easter Eggs on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and at the Fairfield Showground.
While there are no real easter eggs on the climb (for safety reasons), there are “graphical eggs” that the kids can spot and count. There will be real eggs (and prizes for correct counters!) at the end of the climb.
At the Fairfield Easter Fair there is also a much-loved Easter egg hunt held every day for kids.
The fair is at the Fairfield Showground from March 28 to April 2.

European markets
Fancy a bit of European flavour this Easter? The European Easter Market is a free event hosted by the Polish Club in Ashfield.
There are over 20 stalls of Easter-themed goods – cakes, Polish doughnuts, jewellery, painted eggs, toys, and more.
“The Easter Bunny will make an appearance on the day to bestow all with lots of chocolatey tasty treats, and there will be face painting available for the kids,” read a statement from organisers.
Easter in the park
Speaking of eggscellent things to do, Centennial Park is hosting an Alice in Easterland family day.
On Easter Saturday (in morning and afternoon sessions), join Alice as she helps the Mad Hatter find his Easter bonnet in a performance by the Eaton Gorge Theatre Company.
“Then get crafty with Easter bonnet decorating, enjoy a chocolate treat from our partner Kinder, and join the small parade to showcase your creations!” read a Centennial Park statement.
Easter fair
We’re guessing you’ve heard about the Sydney Royal Easter Show, but there’s another Easter show if you’re seeking something smaller and less crowded (and perhaps more affordable).
The Sydney Family Show is at Moore’s Park Entertainment Quarter from March 23 to April 1.
Between the European Markets, Alice in Easterland and Easter Fair, there’s something for everyone this weekend!
Like the Easter show, this family-friendly event has rides, showbags and performances – including a Motorcycle and Bike Stunt Show, and a reptile show.
There are plenty of rides for all ages including Dodgem Cars, the Super Sizzler, and a classic Carousel, plus carnival games and show bags.
