“New hot cross bun flavours! Would you like to sample any? Banana and caramel, or white chocolate and raspberry?” This week, Sam celebrates Easter with a poem to the traditional hot cross bun.

Sam’s Poem to the Traditional Hot Cross Bun
Supermarket bustling, trolley jostling away
Approached by a man with a filled food tray
‘New hot cross bun flavours! Would you like to sample any?
Banana and caramel, or white chocolate and raspberry?’
I obliged and took a taste,
Pondered whether the flavours were invented in haste.
I appreciate alternatives, but it’s the original for me
For simple is the best a bun can possibly be
Spices and raisins send my heart all a-flutter
Add some cholesterol in the form of soft butter
The cross a reminder of the forgiveness Jesus brings
These are a few of my favourite things.
So though there are many, there can be only one.
Thank you, traditional hot cross bun.
