With over 770 million episode views and counting, The Chosen goes into its fourth season as one of the most profound displays of Jesus’ relevance to today’s audience.

Kirk Woller (X Files, Switched at Birth) play Gaius, a Roman solider who’s had a front row seat to the impact of Jesus’ teaching on the disciples as he reprimands them for questioning the rules of the day, and who also himself is affected by being near Jesus.

Leading into Season 4, after hearing the Sermon the Mount Gaius’ inner conflict is brewing as he experiences the divide between the truths he’s grown up with and Roman law, and what he’s seeing in Jesus and His followers.

“What makes the show successful is Jesus’ message,” Kirk told Hope 103.2

“It can get watered down so much with religion, with man, with rhetoric and dogma but His message is simple: treat others as you would yourself, put others before you, be kind.

“All the things Jesus said are just so profoundly life-changing when you really stop and think about it.”

Often dubbed a villain of the show alongside Quintis (Brandon Potter) and Elijah Alexander (Atticus), Gaius isn’t a character Kirk sees as all bad.

“Everybody has a justified for why they do what they do,” Kirk said.

“Nobody thinks they’re a bad person.

“Everybody finds a reason why they’re going to do this or that. From infidelity, to murder, to cheating on your taxes, everybody’s going to find a reason – does that make them a bad person? No, it just reflects their choices.”

Having been part of the show since its first season and watched as millions joined the journey globally, Kirk is quick to recognise what a blessing it is to be part of the series.

“I consider it an honour to embody something that’s just so important to the world,” Kirk said.

“Why me? Who am I? To somehow be in this position I take with such gratitude.

“To be recognized for something that is having such a positive impact on the world, as I’m coming to learn, that’s an honour. Note everybody gets to do that.”

Season 4 of The Chosen will launch in cinemas February 1, 2024. Tickets are on sale now.
