Get your dancing shoes on and rubber legs moving, because the brand-new stage show Elvis: A Musical Revolution is coming to Sydney!
Featuring more than 40 hit songs, the production explores the pivotal moments of The King’s life and career – from his childhood in Mississippi to his rapid ascent to become a cultural icon. Theatre and TV star Rob Mallett is playing the coveted title role and is feeling the pressure of sharing such a monumental story.
Bringing Elvis to life
Rob Mallett is a triple threat – an actor, singer and dancer – and has been working hard to bring a unique but authentic version of Elvis to life on stage.
“The advantage of playing someone as famous as Elvis is that there’s so much material out there. I could sit on YouTube for days and watch interviews, listening to him speak,” Rob told Hope Drive.
“It was important for us to capture an authentic version of him, with his voice and dance moves, to pay respect and tribute to his fans.
“I have gone home most days [after rehearsal] shaking with adrenaline, with the pressure to mount this show.
“But it’s amazing. How many people get to play a role like this?”
Additionally, the production value of the show is set to be world-class. Some of the costumes including Elvis’ black leathers and white outfit from the ‘68 Comeback Special are being made in America by the Lanksy Brothers, who made Elvis’ jackets when he was alive.
“The show is this really dynamic play where we meet all the characters that come in and out of his life,” – Rob Mallett, playing Elvis
Something for everyone
Rob believes the show has something for everyone and encourages all fans of Elvis – young and old – to attend.
“You can sit down and listen to an Elvis album and know every single word without ever having learnt them,” Rob laughed.
“Everyone, in every generation, has grown up listening to his music.
“And the show is this really dynamic play where we meet all the characters that come in and out of his life.
“It’s going to be amazing.”
