For almost 15 years, Arthur Ongley and his wife Denise have gathered people around one tiny instrument.

Founders of PHUN (Parramatta and Hills Ukulele Network), Arthur and Denise transform suburban Sydney into a weekly session of ukulele strumming and socialising.

The PHUN group was one of the first of its kind in Sydney.

Having first encountered the ukulele while on holiday in Hawaii, Arthur instantly connected with the pint-sized “guitar”.

As Hope Mornings discovered when calling Arthur on a Thursday morning, the Ongleys run PHUN weekly and merrily on that day.

Arthur told Hope Mornings the ukulele is a terrific tuneful tool to bring communities together. So he reckons we all should try it.
