It’s true MercyMe are more well known for a good rock ballad over a pop party, (think ‘I Can Only Imagine’ or ‘The Hurt and The Healer’) but they’re mixing it up with their new track ‘Shake’, throwing their own street party in Huntsville, Alabama.
Shot at a newly renovated 50’s style diner in the city centre, ‘Shake’ borrowed dancers from the North Alabama Dance Center and Jill’s Studio of Dance, to tell a story “about having [Christ’s] joy and living life that way – Christians are supposed to have joy,” say lead singer Bart Millard.
Choreographer Rickles made sure that visually it wasn’t about a clean and crisp image so much as it was about giving people an opportunity to just dance, and literally shake off their inhibitions, telling his dancers that “the only wrong dance move is no dance move – move! Just make sure everything is pure – underscore pure – fun…and no twerking.”
Thankfully they all obeyed, and the result is fun, happily daggy soundtrack for summer.
‘Shake’ is on the air now, and available on iTunes worldwide.
