Our newest X Factor winner Marlisa Punzalan releases her debut single ‘Stand By You’, topping the ARIA Australia Artists Singles Chart ahead of The Veronica’s, Guy Sebastian and Jessica Mauboy.
Written in honour of those that supported her through the shows journey Malrisa told The Daily Telegraph “it’s about the people who stood by me and got me here,” she said, “without their support I wouldn’t be where I am, and it’s my turn to stand by them.”
Celebrating her 15th birthday during the show, Punzalan entered The X Factor as one of its younger contestants, with critics wondering how she’ll handle the sudden onset of fame – her Facebook following has already jumped to nearly 80 000 fans.
But, Punzalan has kept her head thus far, and has a mature approach to the critics, explaining to The Sydney Morning Herald, “I try not to read any of the bad stuff because it is just going to ruin my day and it will lower my confidence as well … I try not to do that because it makes me emotionally upset and hurt.”
It’s a wise approach to take, and hopefully one her new fans can be inspired by.
