For the first time since 1960, writers and actors in Hollywood are on strike together – essentially putting the movie and TV industry into shutdown.
Although screen writers across the country have been on strike for almost 11 weeks they were joined on Friday by actors across the industry with stars including Matt Damon, Emily Blunt, Cillian Murphy and Florence Pugh walking out of their own premieres in solidarity.
Among the issues up for negotiation are residuals – payments for repeat showings of films or TV shows – as well as the laws surrounding the use of artificial intelligence in productions.
Russ Matthews, cohost of The Watchlist, joined Hope Drive to explain why actors are striking and the potential impact it could have on the film and TV industry in the coming months and years.
