There aren’t many mentions of Mary Magdalene in the Bible, yet as the first person to see the resurrected Christ, her story and character has attracted curiosity for decades.
Who was this woman we’ve heard referred to as a harlot, ‘demon possessed’, and at times saintlike?
On March 22, Mary’s story is going to be imagined in the new film Mary Magdalene – a secular Bible epic taking on the unknown world of one of Jesus’ most unlikely followers. Made by the director of Lion, the film stars Rooney Mara as Mary and Joaquin Phoenix as Jesus. Mary Magdalene is inspired by scripture but is a non-traditional Hollywood approach to characters and conversations normally reserved for the church.

Hope 103.2’s Laura Bennett will be on the discussion panel at this advance screening hosted by City Bible Forum team. It’s a chance to catch the film before everyone else and explore with the discussion panel the way Mary and Jesus are portrayed.
